Harry S. Truman served as the nation's 33rd president from 1945 - 1953. Truman took office after the sudden death of FDR and lead during post-war America. Truman desegregated the military and commissioned a federal report on civil rights.
Truman died on December 26, 1972.
In 1947, Truman responded to Soviet threats in Greece and Turkey with the Truman Doctrine, a policy of helping free people resisting attempted subjugation. A modified Wilsonian vision was at the root of Cold War policy
