Google is a powerful search engine that offers quick and easy web searching. Use the tips and tricks provided in this guide to get the most your of your Google search.

Conducting a Search

  • Use boolean operators to locate search results. 
  • The tool bar on the left-hand side of the results screen can be used to limit results to a particular time frame.
  • By clicking the three bar button in the upper-left hand side of the screen, you can select "Advanced Search" to further refine your results.

Available Tools & Links

  1. Citation tools are available below each result in the quotation mark link. (Always double-check citations for correctness!)
  2. The “Cited by” featured identifies other researchers that have cited that particular source.
  3. The “Related Articles” button leads you to similar articles on that specific topic.
  4. If the result is not available at McKee Library or another free resource, you can select the more button,
    then select “Library Search.” This will take you directly to the library’s website where you can request
    the item through interlibrary loan (which is completely free for you!).
  5. The "Request_It@McKeeLibrary" link takes you to the library's interlibrary loan system to request the item.
  6. If McKee Library has the item in full text, you will see it listed to the right-hand side of the screen. Select the "View_It@McKee_Library" to access the full-text through the library.

In order to see if McKee Library has the article, you must first set up your Google Scholar searching in the settings menu. Please note: If you are logged in to the Internet at Southern’s campus, you will not have to complete this process.

  1. Select the three bars button in the upper left-hand corner of the page.
  2. Select “Settings”
  3. Select "Library Links"
  4. Search for “Southern Adventist University” in the search bar. Make sure that the University is checked.
