EBSCO Databases: Using & Searching in EBSCO Databases: Refining Results

Research guide discussing how to use the search features of EBSCOhost databases.

Refining Results

You can refine your results using the options by clicking the "All Filters" button below the search bar

  • Results can be filtered by source types, such as Academic Journals, Magazines, or Newspapers, by clicking the checkboxes next to the desired source type.
  • To limit results to peer-reviewed titles, simply select the Peer Reviewed button.
  • You can limit results to the past year, five years, 10 years, and select a custom date range under the Publication Date limiter.
  • You can limit results to only those available in full text by selecting "Full Text." Please remember, this is only searching one database or one vendor. McKee Library provides a "Get Full Text" button for all items not held in that database. This button quickly searches all library holdings for the item. You can request the material for free through interlibrary loan if the item is not located.

Using Subject Terms is an excellent way to refine results to a specific topic or subject matter. You can click the Show More link to apply multiple selections at once. We have expanded the subject terms in the example to the right to show more options.
