Select a Research Topic: Finding a Research Topic

Suggested research topics for each academic discipline.

Finding a Research Topic

This guide provides you with a list of topic ideas (by subject or academic discipline) which could be developed into a research paper or project.  It is not an all inclusive list, but is being developed over time with input from faculty and students.

When choosing a topic, you are encouraged to find something that interests you and others but is not likely to be frequently chosen by other students or written about so extensively that it will be difficult to find something new to say.  Obvious topics like exercise, vegetarianism, sleep, eating disorders, and capital punishment are examples of topics which are likely to be overdone.  Remember that the goal in writing a paper is to add something new to the conversation, not simply to restate what has been said many times already.

This is NOT a guide to help you conduct research on topic. It is only intended to provide ideas for a paper. If you need further assistance, please visit the research guides and/or schedule an appointment with a research coach.
