In addition to making datasets universally accessible and useful, Dataset Search's mission is to:

Foster a data sharing ecosystem that will encourage data publishers to follow best practices for data storage and publication
Give scientists a way to show the impact of their work through citation of datasets that they have produced
As more dataset repositories use schema.org and similar standards to describe their datasets, the variety and coverage of datasets that users find in Dataset Search will continue to grow.

Over 70 public-use data files from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) are available free from the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). The ICPSR , located within the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, is a membership-based not-for-profit organization serving member colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. The ICPSR holdings of NCHS studies include data, with electronic documentation, from the National Health Interview Survey, National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, National Hospital Discharge Survey, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, National Nursing Home Survey and Follow-ups, among others.

Datasets are increasingly a key digital resource used in a wide range of fields. The Library of Congress selects, preserves, and provides enduring access to datasets with the goal of cultivating a broad collection that encompasses all the areas covered by Library of Congress Collection Policy Statements. Additional datasets acquired by the Library for the permanent collection will be made available here on a regular basis.

ResearchDataGov is a web portal for discovering and requesting access to restricted microdata from federal statistical agencies. RDG advances the evidence-building capabilities of the Federal government, which was a key goal of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018.
