V-Jay Day
V-J day stands for Victoryover Japan Day. This day, August 14, 1945, is the day that Japan unconditionally to the Allies. This important event marked the end of World War II. VJ Day Celebrations Footage, 1945
Victory over Japan Day, known as VJ Day, marked the official end of the Second World War. Japan had put forth an offer of surrender on 10 August, but it took several days for the exact terms of the surrender to be agreed. When news of this initial offer broke, London took to the streets to celebrate. Japan publicly announced its surrender on 15 August 1945 and this day has since been commemorated. Millions of people across the world celebrated Allied victory over Japan in August and September 1945. The footage in this showreel includes scenes from London's celebrations as well as a parade through the streets of Hong Kong and celebrations in Toronto, Canada.
