Yasmin Philip Art Exhibit

A collection of works from Southern Adventist University student Yasmin Philip is on exhibit on McKee Library's second floor. Yasmin's works will be on exhibit March 4 through June 28, 2019. 

Though a Health Science pre-Physician Assistant major at Southern Adventist University, Yasmin Phillip has made artistic expression a part of her life since she was young. What started as following her family around with the family’s old video camera blossomed into a passion for capturing ordinary and extraordinary moments of life through photography, graphite and ink drawing, visual art journaling, and mixed media.

One of Yasmin’s current mottoes as an artist is a reminder her uncle, who is also an artist, once gave her: “Don’t make things others will like. Make things that tell a story.” Each of her three pieces are part of this effort. ‘Koi Pond’ glimpses into the lives of a community of koi through the perspective of abstract-looking motion. ‘Pool Bench Gymnastics’ captures the simple, carefree joy and excitement experienced during summertime as a child. Lastly, the comparison of building size to the size of the people walking in the photo, ‘Little Venice - Valencia, Spain,’ points to the realization that the beauty and grandeur in life can often be seen best when we look at things from a bigger perspective. 

While pursuing a medical career and developing other passions such as music and writing, Yasmin is also in the process of developing a freelance art business.
